Identity Theft by Dan Hatten, Hutchinson Police ChiefTuesday, October 03, 2006We are going to focus on the easy ways each of us can minimize the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft or fraud.
The Problem
We give our names, address, D.O.B., social security numbers, all the time.
We give our bank account numbers out.We give our credit card numbers out verbally, over the phone, the inter-net, and restaurants.
This type of information can be used to gather more information about us.
This information is used to create new identities using names and numbers with the criminal's photo. We cannot stop totally giving out this information, but we can become more careful and aware.
